That's why people who are skilled at those games also get higher scores on intelligence tests. The researchers confirmed their findings by comparing people's gaming skill levels with their IQ scores. They revealed that the better people were at playing, the higher their IQ. Nice.

Here’s Why Science Says People Who Are Incredible Gamers Are Also Geniuses

Good news for your Call of Duty habit.

If you’ve ever been told playing video games rots your brain and makes you stupid, I have news for you: this study found that video games actually make you smarter. Those of you who are really good at them are super smart and have high IQs. Hooray! Conducted at the at the University of York’s Digital Creativity Labs, the study revealed that two of the world’s most popular video games – League of Legends and DOTA 2 — act like IQ tests. That’s why people who are skilled at those games also get higher scores on intelligence tests. The researchers confirmed their findings by comparing people’s gaming skill levels with their IQ scores. They revealed that the better people were at playing, the higher their IQ. Nice. This makes sense if you consider games like League of Legends and DOTA 2 utilize strategic thinking and quick reaction times. That means the more you play, the more you train your brain in those specific skills. More interesting: This means that only strategy games indicate intelligence and sharpen your mind. Other games—The Sims or Wii sports Hello Kitty Island Adventure—do not make you smarter. “Games such as League of Legends and DOTA 2 are complex, socially-interactive and intellectually demanding,” said one of the researchers, Dr. Alex Wade of the University of York’s Department of Psychology and Digital Creativity Labs, “Our research would suggest that your performance in these games can be a measure of intelligence.” “Research in the past has pointed to the fact that people who are good at strategy games such as chess tend to score highly at IQ tests,” Wade continued, “Our research has extended this to games that millions of people across the planet play every day.” Furthermore, lead researcher Athanasios Kokkinakis said, “Unlike First Person Shooter (FPS) games where speed and target accuracy are a priority, Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas (MOBAs) rely more on memory and the ability to make strategic decisions taking into account multiple factors. “It is perhaps for these reasons,” he concluded, “that we found a strong correlation between skill and intelligence in MOBAs.” Hear that? Science confirms that (certain) video games are fantastic for your brain. You can totally use this as an argument the next time your girlfriend tries to get you to stop.

Why do gamers Last Longer in Bed?

The researchers found that while gamers and non-gamers showed no difference in erectile and orgasmic function, gamers were less likely to report premature ejaculation than non-gamers. A lessened desire for intercourse among gamers, the researchers hypothesized, could be responsible for this finding.

ROME — Being an avid gamer might bring an unexpected benefit to your sex life, a new study finds. Researchers at Sapienza University of Rome in Italy surveyed 396 Italian men between the ages of 18 and 50, with 287 of them identifying as “gamers”— meaning they played for at least an hour a day on average. The survey mainly polled respondents on their sexual functioning. The topic of video games and sexual health was a deep interest of the researchers, many of whom considered themselves gamers. The researchers found that while gamers and non-gamers showed no difference in erectile and orgasmic function, gamers were less likely to report premature ejaculation than non-gamers. A lessened desire for intercourse among gamers, the researchers hypothesized, could be responsible for this finding. No definitive reason was able to be confirmed, however. “I’d like my colleagues to consider assessing video game use (and abuse) during evaluations of male sexual dysfunctions,” says Andrea Sansone, the study’s co-author (and a self-described gamer himself) in an interview with PsyPost.org. Acknowledging that their data was derived from anonymous self-reported surveys, the researchers also argued that perhaps not all games have the same effect on men’s performance in bed. “Are all games equal?” asks Sansone. “Is an hour of MiniMetro as stressful as a 60-minutes match of League of Legends? And is that going to cause any difference?” The study was of a cross-sectional variety— i.e., it pulled data from adult men at a specific point in time. Considering how there are over 1.8 billion gamers on Earth, perhaps the effects of gaming on other aspects of one’s life should be more closely examined.

The study’s findings were published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.
