I turn 36 at the end of this week, so I that means I have a few more years to get myself in line! So what do they mean when they say, "get your life together?" Apparently, a person "has it together" if they have a steady job, a good romantic relationship, and a group of friends. Other benchmarks according to the survey: At 29, the average adult should have a solid group of friends, and by 31, they should have met and fallen in love with "the one." I think 31 is young for "the one;" I got married at 30, but I know other people who are closer to 40 and haven't found their person. I also know people who got married at 22 and divorced by 30, so sometimes it takes a while! I feel like this survey is putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on us...I think if you can hold down a job, manage to put on clean clothes every day, show up to places on time, and tip your server well and be nice to people, you're doing good! Don't freak out! lol!

Highly effective people spend an inordinate amount of time and energy listening (Covey, 1989). Some psychologists believe that the ability to listen to another person, to empathize with, and to understand their point of view is one of the highest forms of intelligent behavior. Being able to paraphrase another person's ideas, detecting indicators (cues) of their feelings or emotional states in their oral and body language (empathy), accurately expressing another person's concepts, emotions and problems—all are indications of listening behavior (Piaget called it "overcoming ego-centrism"). They are able to see through the diverse perspectives of others. They gently attend to another person demonstrating their understanding of and empathy for an idea or feeling by paraphrasing it accurately, building upon it, clarifying it, or giving an example of it.
Socially isolated people are less able to deal with stressful situations. They're also more likely to feel depressed and may have problems...
