Can my Neighbour park a caravan on his drive?

In short, it comes down to the deeds on your property but there are other factors in play including your neighbours and how much they like you. At the basic level, your property will have a clause in the deeds stating that you can or cannot keep a caravan on the property.

Summer is here! Although the indecisive August weather would lead you to believe otherwise, but really it is here and that means many people are chasing the British sun in their caravan after month of it sitting stationary on a driveway.

But is it illegal to leave it on your driveway doing nothing for so long?

Well, according to the Birmingham Mail there are NO definitive laws on this but it can be interpreted in a number of different ways. In short, it comes down to the deeds on your property but there are other factors in play including your neighbours and how much they like you. At the basic level, your property will have a clause in the deeds stating that you can or cannot keep a caravan on the property. This is unlikely to just be a biased against caravans though and will most probably also state that you can not keep any commercial vehicles or vans on the property as well. In practice, covenants prohibiting the parking of caravans have been applied to most 'estate type' properties built since the 1970s. Things get more complicated and convoluted when you consider neighbours and their property and land. You see, some of your neighbours may view your caravan as ugly (How dare they!?) and downright hazardous, especially if it impairs their own ability to manoeuvre, or see, off their driveways. The Birmingham Mail adds that caravan owners on internet forums suggest speaking to your neighbours before pitching a caravan on your driveway, because this maintains that good relationship, as well as forewarning them. If a caravan blocking your vision getting out of your drive, there is something you can do to remove it, but it requires letters to councils and road safety officials. Likewise, if you must park a caravan on your property's driveway, most owners of the vehicles suggest writing to your council, so you are able to prove you have permission should any issues arise.
