Health Problems caused due to low mineral water from RO. : Gastric disorders The chemical formula of Water is H2O. This looks very simple on the surface level, however water is a pretty complex fluid. The composition of water is influenced by a wide range of factors. One being the geological factor that includes the atmospheric interaction, the minerals present in the soil, contact with the living and organic matter. When we consider the aspect of drinking water, sometimes artificially produced water are thoroughly demineralised. Demineralisation implies water as almost or completely free of dissolved minerals as a result of distillation, deionization, membrane filtration ( reverse osmosis or nanofiltration), electrodialysis or other technology. Demineralisation or low mineral water is extremely aggressive. If it is left untreated the distribution becomes very arduous. Further, distillation of water causes the taste of the water to deteriorate. This is the process involved in water that we consume from the RO and several other bottled sources. Considering drinking water, the water that we consume need to be safe for human consumption. Several countries around the world has set standard maximum acceptable limits on the concentration of dissolved inorganic and organic components in water. Here, what can be considered is, in order to ensure the safety of drinking water, all the dissolved substance present could be eradicated fully. However, this is not done because some of the dissolved components are deleterious to overall human health while others are essential minerals and micronutrients. ( Water contains essential minerals such as Magnesium, Calcium, Sodium, Potassium etc). These are extremely vital for the maintainance of the overall holistic health of an individual. Water purification therefore becomes an essential process to ensure that the drinking water remains safe for consumption. Reverse Osmosis is a widely used purification technique. Water is pressurised and forced through a semi permeable membrane. This removes the pathogens, impurities along with the mineral ions. Therefore, RO water is pure but demineralised. People who consume RO based water or the usual bottled water need to realize that this is not the best choice. It has been scientifically confirmed that the consumption of Reverse Osmosis water is extremely detrimental to the human health. Water obtained from RO filtration process has a low pH value. Prolonged consumption of RO water can cause gastrointestinal troubles and enhanced risk of kidney disorders. RO water is one of the major cause of gastric disorders. This is because it is slightly more acidic than pure water. It has a lower pH value which ranges from 6.0-6.5 pH. The pH level of normal pure water is around 7-7.5 pH. According to the World Health Organisation it has been confirmed that the prolong use of RO water can cause chronic gastritis, gastric duodenal ulcers. On a less severe level, it is reported to have caused indigestion, bloating, stomach ache and nausea. Several users have complained about the lack of minerals and the element of acid with accompanied side effects such as fever and headache. Several consumers have complained about “heartburn” right after consuming the RO water. People with pre-existing digestive disorders are suggested not to consume RO water. This is because of it’s inevitable tendency to enhance acid reflux. A healthier option therefore is to replace the RO, demineralised water. A much more suitable and healthier option is Natural Mineral Water. It is extremely good for the digestive system.

Therefore, it is important that an individual makes the right choice.
