COVID-19 Emergency Allotments

To help during the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government allowed states to provide extra food benefits to eligible SNAP households. These extra benefits are formally known as Emergency Allotments (EA). Because of EA, most Oregon SNAP households have received the maximum monthly benefit allowable for their household size since April 2020. Oregon has to ask permission from the federal government each month to issue EA.

February update

February is the last month that the federal government will allow Oregon to issue pandemic emergency food benefits.

SNAP households will continue to receive their regular SNAP benefits after February.

March 2023 will be the first month since April 2020 that most people on SNAP in Oregon will only receive their regular SNAP food benefits. Oregonians who receive SNAP are encouraged to prepare for this change in the food benefits they receive.

Knowing your regular SNAP benefit can help you budget. You can check how much your regular benefits are by accessing your EBT account online at www.ebtEDGE.com or by logging into your ONE account at Benefits.oregon.gov. Remember that SNAP has changed since April 2020

In addition to the temporary emergency food benefits due to COVID-19, SNAP has experienced other permanent changes that will support people's ability to get enough healthy food for themselves and their families. On October 1, 2021, regular SNAP food benefits were permanently increased by an average of about $36 per person, per month. In January 2022, Oregon increased the income eligibility limit for SNAP up to 200% of the federal poverty level.

Is Oregon getting emergency food stamps?

Most Oregonians who receive Supplemental Nutrution Assistance Program benefits will receive emergency allotments in January. A release from the Oregon Department of Human Services said the federal government has approved emergency allotments every month since March 2020.

December 27, 2022 3:00 a.m.

Most Oregonians who receive Supplemental Nutrution Assistance Program benefits will receive emergency allotments in January. A release from the Oregon Department of Human Services said the federal government has approved emergency allotments every month since March 2020. This gives SNAP recipients additional support during the COVID-19 pandemic. These emergency benefits are a temporary support that Oregon can provide because of the federal COVID-19 public health emergency. Because the federal government approved these emergency benefits for January, Oregon will also be able to issue them in February 2023. However, the emergency benefits are expected to end when the federal public health emergency ends. In January, approximately 421,000 SNAP households will receive approximately $71 million in extra food benefits in addition to their regular SNAP benefits. Current SNAP households will receive emergency allotments on January 11th. Emergency allotments will be issued January 31st or February 2nd for households who did not receive benefits in the first monthly issuance. Snap recipients do not have to take any action to receive these benefits as they will be issued directly on their EBT cards.

More information about emergency allotments is available at: https://www.oregon.gov/dhs/ASSISTANCE/FOOD-BENEFITS/Pages/Emergency-Allotments.aspx
