So for bigger games you could fit possibly up to 10 on a 256GB drive. For smaller games, maybe in the 20 - 25 range. Also NVMe can be significantly faster than a SATA SSD, on the order of 5 times as fast for a good one.

Read More »This is not a discussion about speed as much as about space. I know the ssd vs HDD idea is all based on perspective and care. Some don't care to wait, but I do. I have given my current gaming system to the rift to play on, and I have 4x 500GB HDDs in Raid 10. So basically a raid 0 for speed purposes (rated at 280mb/s seq reads, not sure on random reads). Robo recall takes a long time to load(between maps too), and Valve's The Lab takes even longer. No, it doesn't make the game play better, but very long loading times kinda ruin the fun factor for me. When I am eager to get to the next map, and I have to wait 2-3 min to go back to the office and then same for getting into a map, you realize you are losing 15-20+ min in loading within an hour of game time. I know I can just add a couple 1 TB drives for $100 and it would be some better(aprox 400mb/s) and plenty of space, but for a dedicated VR system I think a PCIe NVMe drive for game storage would be ideal. An SSD is probably also much quicker, but NVMe is very fast compared to even that. I can get a 256gb Intel nvme for around $100. How many games do you think that would hold at one time? I've not seen enough games yet to know how big the avg game is, but it seems that apps are 1-4gb on avg and games are 6-20gb. Some of the games are getting massive like Project Cars(50gb), but I don't have those yet. And like someone else said how many games do you need at once? I have a lot of non VR downloaded for steam, but rarely play any of them other than my main ones. I have 30mb internet w/ unlimited data so I can just download a game in 30 min or less.
