How many pairs of pants do I need for a 3 day trip?

One or two pairs of pants should be plenty for a three-day getaway; any more than that will take up unnecessary space in your bag. Try to pack a few pairs that are comfortable enough to wear on your flight, and have a few extra pockets to stash your small essentials. We recommend: Everlane Easy Pant.

Sweater or cardigan

Not only do sweaters and cardigans pull in a cozy element, but they’re great to have on hand if the weather dips in a direction you didn’t expect. The best sweaters for travel aren’t too clunky or chunky, but take up a small amount of space while still keeping you warm.

We recommend:

Lightweight jacket

Even if you’re not traveling to a colder climate, a lightweight jacket is still a nice ‘just in case’ item to have with you on your trip. A jacket will help keep you warm on chilly mornings or outdoor adventures, so you’ll likely be glad you decided to bring one along.

We recommend:

Comfortable walking shoes

Walking shoes are a fundamental part of any traveler’s packing list, especially since walking is one of the greatest ways to take in a new city. Look for a comfortable pair that’ll allow for all-day exploration, and won’t leave you reaching for the box of bandaids once you take them off.

We recommend:

One other pair of shoes

In addition to having a quality pair of walking shoes, it’s a good idea to pack one other pair of shoes for your trip. Depending on where your travels take you, you might want a cute pair of sandals for the beach, or a sturdy pair of boots if you’re headed somewhere cold.

We recommend:

Full-length leggings

A stretchy and supportive pair of leggings is a travel must, since they can be worn on a flight, on a hike, or on a quick trip to the store. The best leggings are soft to the touch, come in a high-rise style, and have pockets to help hold your phone or keys while you’re out and about.

We recommend:

Soft clothes (underwear, socks, pajamas)

The soft clothes category is sort of all-encompassing for things like socks, pajamas, and loungewear. These items are an important part of your getaway bag, since they offer maximum comfort, and are ideal to throw on after a long day of taking in the sights and sounds.

We recommend:

Don’t Forget The Essentials!

Laptop + laptop charger

If your getaway will have a little work mixed in, you definitely won’t want to forget your laptop and charger! Since it’s just a three day trip, hopefully you can get by without *all* your tech (i.e. leaving the external hard drive at home), so you can save a bit more room in your bag.

Backup battery

An extra, external battery for your smartphone can be super clutch while you’re traveling, as you’ll likely be using a lot of power to check maps, take photos, and more. With a backup option, you can simply plug in to your phone whenever the battery starts to drain.

Noise-canceling headphones

Noise-canceling headphones can seem like a luxury, but we consider them a must have for getting some shut eye on your flight. Plus, if you find yourself with some free time to roam the city by yourself, headphones can block out all the commotion, so you’re able to fully take in the views around you while listening to your favorite songs.

Travel pillow

Speaking of dozing off in-flight, a travel pillow can be a saving grace when you’re trying to snag some serious Zzzs. Look for one that’s lightweight and easy to inflate, and can compress or wrap around the straps of your bag to minimize space while still providing comfort.

Reusable water bottle

If you’re already using a reusable water bottle, cheers to you! And if you haven’t made the switch quite yet, your trip might be the perfect time to invest in one. Go for a stainless steel bottle that can hold both hot and cold beverages (Like wine!), and can be used at airport fill stations.

Health + hygiene products

This last spot on our list is a bit broad, seeing as everyone has their own routine for bathing, skincare, and general hygiene. Definitely bring your toothbrush/paste, deodorant, and medications or supplements, and then add in little bottles of your shampoo, serums, and so on. Keep in mind (like we mentioned above), anything you forget can always be purchased on location, so no need to sweat the small stuff!
