Read More »The sanctions imposed by the United States on Russian defense companies, including Concern Kalashnikov, have influenced the price of Russian weapons on the American market, leading to an increase in sales. As noted by the Russian trade representative in the United States Alexander Stadnik in an interview with ITAR-TASS, the average price of the civilian version of the Kalashnikov has already reached $1,500, although the price of the weapon on the American market just a few months ago was around $600. “This is due to the fact that in early September of this year, American dealers reported that they had sold out of these weapons,” explained Alexander Stadnik. “Now Americans who buy the legendary assault rile either as a souvenir or as an investment prefer to purchase products made in Russia rather than by European counterparts.” Consequently, an active resale of Kalashnikov rifles has begun. According to Stadnik, American authorities are “already fearful that the termination of the domestic supply may lead to a grey market.” The Russian trade representative in the US believes that the American market had a deficit of these kind of weapon before the introduction of sanctions and that “what Concern Kalashnikov provided the United States was only a third of what potential American customers would like to buy.” In recent years, the civil version of the AK-47 accounted for about 50% of Concern Kalashnikov’s exports to the United States. The Kalashnikov assault rifle is greatly valued by collectors of small arms and sporting weapons. On July 16, the United States Department of the Treasury announced a list of sanctioned companies, including the Concern Kalashnikov, which would be prohibited from supplying products to the United States. Previously the concern exported to America civil hunting and sporting weapons, including the popular carbine Saiga (a civil version of the Kalashnikov assault rifle) that used a variety of ammunition, as well as the carbines Los, Bars, Sobol, and Record, in addition to shotguns. Concern Kalashnikov also produced the semi-automatic rifle Saiga-12 for American police forces.
