Cooler Disinfection Guidelines

Cleaning & Sanitizing Guide for Bottled Water Dispensers The water which we deliver to you is bottled under specific sanitary guidelines as set forth by State and Federal Health Departments as well as the International Bottled Water Association and the National Sanitation Foundation. You may be assured that the water you receive is clean and pure. To be consistent with these good sanitation techniques, it is important that you periodically clean and sanitize your bottled water dispenser. Recommended frequency of cleaning is once every 3 to 6 months. We recommend that you adopt the following steps to properly sanitize your dispenser. 1. If you have a cooler, unplug it at least 5 minutes before cleaning, and take it outside. 2. Drain all the water from the reservoir through the spigot. 3. Using a clean cloth or sponge and a solution of household bleach in water (approximately one to three teaspoons of bleach to each gallon of water – no more), thoroughly wipe the bottle collar, the inside of the reservoir, the top of the dispenser, the spigot in front, and the grill and inside surfaces of the drip tray. 4. Fill the reservoir with the bleach/water solution and drain 2 – 3 cups of it out through the spigot(s) to sanitize the spigot(s) internally. Then refill the reservoir with bleach/water solution. 5. Allow to stand for 10 – 15 minutes with bleach/water solution inside reservoir. Then drain again. Rinse and flush thoroughly with fresh water. 6. Remove the plastic drip tray, dump out any water or debris that has accumulated inside it, and wash with soap and warm water. Note: Do not pour coffee, tea, or anything besides water into the drip tray, as this can lead to bacterial buildup, and a foul odor. 7. Check the grill on the back of the cooler for dust accumulation. A dirty grill will keep the cooler from cooling properly. Take the cooler back inside. 8. When you place a fresh bottle of water back on the dispenser, flush about a cup of the bottled water through the spigot (and discard it) to rinse out any excess bleach remaining in spigot. These simple steps will assure that the dispensing system is as clean as the water you put into it. If you have any questions regarding this procedure, please give us a call. 846 ~ 0000 Just Say, ” Hey Culligan Man! “
