There have been over 500 contestants to appear on Survivor's 38 seasons, and a number of those castaways have achieved fan-favorite status by being the first or best at a list of unofficial Survivor achievements. Ozzy Lusth has appeared on Survivor the most, Ian and Tom competed in the longest Survivor challenge ever, and Rupert Boneham was the first player to appear in back-to-back seasons. Rudy Boesch also has a legendary status on the show because he's the oldest person to ever play Survivor. Due to the grueling nature of Survivor, fans are often curious about the ages of castaways, and Boesch's recent passing has put his time on the show back in the spotlight.

Rudy made it to the final three of Borneo before being voted out (that season had a final two), and he was the second person voted out during All-Stars. He was known for his often off-color comments, like when he said he was friends with future Borneo winner Richard Hatch but "not in a homosexual way." He also landed in some controversy when he repeatedly referred to Hatch as "queer" on live television.

Rudy was included in People's "Sexiest Man Alive" issue as the "Sexiest Survivor" in 2000, and he also landed a number of hosting and acting gigs. In 2015, he was inducted into the Survivor Hall of Fame. In 2015, the 91-year-old retired Navy Seal led the First Colonial Inn Survivor Challenge at the Virginia Beach retirement community where he now lives.
