While at rehab, Kaylie befriends Maeve, a pretty model who is also there to shed her eating disorder. Marcus, a rep from the NGO meets with Chloe, Emily and Cindy, Emily‘s parole officer to discuss Emily‘s status after she was arrested for stealing medicine for Brian from the pharmacy. Cindy informs Emily that since her probation restricts her to home and the gym only, she can attend the exhibition in Denver only if she wears an ankle monitoring bracelet. Emily is mortified that she will have to perform with a monitoring device everyone will be able to see. At the exhibition the girls find out that Kelly Parker is back and the Denver elite team will also be showcased at the exhibition. Austin introduces Lauren and Payson to an old friend of his named Max who seems to be immediately attracted to Payson, but she seems indifferent. The girls learn that Max is considering moving to Colorado but is trying to decide on Boulder or Denver. Lauren wanting to sink her chops into Max at first sight, suggest Boulder. Later at the exhibition party, the girls see Carter hanging out with Kelly Parker and he informs them that he has jumped ship and moved over to the Denver team. While everyone else is at the party, Max spends time sharing some of his photography work with Payson. She reveals that a "good friend" (meaning Sasha) showed her how beautiful she was, and he replies, "Lucky guy," interpreting from Payson's expression that she had feelings for this friend. Kim finds Sasha from a tip from Marty and tries to convince him not to go to Romania, but he says he failed the girls and will not return. Emily apologizes to the Exhibition crowd for disgracing the Rock club when her leg warmer falls and her monitoring bracelet is revealed. 32 12 "Free People" Fred Gerber Joanna Johnson April 4, 2011 ( ) 1.69[24] Kaylie is frustrated with her stay in Rehab, and wants more than ever to get back to training at The Rock. Maeve begins to coach Kaylie on what to say to get out of rehab quicker. Steve introduces Darby Conrad, the 25-year-old, two-time Olympian, and Silver medalist as the new Rock Coach. Everyone, especially Payson, is skeptical of Darby‘s coaching abilities. Lauren is overjoyed because Darby was Lauren‘s Big Sister at NGO camp. Darby meets the girls with a bubbly personality making her clearly more of a cheerleader than a gym leader. Darby informs the girls that she won‘t be imposing any dating rules or curfews on the girls. She trusts that they as gymnasts and women have the self control needed for their profession. Now that Darby is the new coach, Lauren asks to be her second in command as the new team captain in Kaylie‘s absence. Both Emily and Payson disagree that Lauren should be captain, and Darby has Payson and Lauren compete for the title. The competition is extremely close, and the girls are all shocked by the result. Damon is back in Boulder to record, and Emily is happy because she can finally see him without sneaking around. Kaylie‘s therapist approves Kaylie to go home but doesn‘t clear her to begin training. She suggests to Kaylie's parents that Kaylie use this time to develop other interests. Steve asks Summer for a second chance at their relationship. Summer agrees and they are officially back together again. Marcus the NGO rep informs Emily and Chloe that the NGO has decided to keep Emily on the National team, provided she signs a contract that outlines rules such as no boyfriends, no job, and no social activities. Ronnie and Alex put together a recording studio for Kaylie to pursue singing. Still upset that she can‘t train, Kaylie tells Emily that Damon can use the recording studio her parents gave her in their home. Emily has to tell Damon that things must go back to the way they were before the rules were lifted but she is ready to have sex with him before they are separated again. 33 13 "The Buddy System" Glenn L. Steelman Amy Turner April 11, 2011 ( ) 1.64[25] Payson and Lauren continue to be snippy with each other, much of it due to their co-captain status and the playful attention Max can be seen giving Payson. Payson repeatedly denies having any feelings for him, but Lauren is not convinced Max feels the same. Darby makes the two learn each other‘s routines in an effort to have them spend time together. Maeve surprises Kaylie with a visit to Boulder. Kaylie shares with Maeve that she still can‘t practice at the Rock because of her therapist and Maeve convinces Kaylie she has to turn her parents against the therapist and she will be back to training in no time. While looking at Lauren‘s computer, Steve discovers the email with the altered video of the Sasha and Payson kiss, that Lauren sent to Ellen Beals. Payson seeks advice from Kim and Austin as to how to trump Lauren‘s sexiness. Steve approaches Lauren with a DVD of the altered video in hand and tells Lauren he is going to give it to Summer. Lauren begs Steve to keep her secret and he agrees despite his intent to show Summer he is a changed man. Kaylie pays the Rock a visit with Maeve in town. Later Maeve takes off to catch an international flight to her next modeling job. Emily finally discovers that Chloe works at a strip club when she finds Chloe‘s name tag. Emily shares with Payson that she had sex with Damon. Payson is happy for her, and then master's Lauren's beam routine, looking very sexy. Only after she starts having some physical appeal does Max take notice of her. Payson does not care but Lauren is furious. Kaylie picks up the phone to call Maeve after a fight with her parents and a woman on the other end informs her that Maeve died of heart failure in the airport. 34 14 "Life or Death" David Paymer Michael Gans & Richard Register April 18, 2011 ( ) 1.58[26] Kaylie becomes sad when she learns Maeve died. Emily is still mad at her mom since she found out that her mom was working at a strip club. Darby asks if Max wants to be a photographer for a headshot for the Dallas meet. When Lauren sees Max taking pictures of Payson's gymnastics, she ask him to take pictures of her. Kaylie sees Damon singing with his guitar in the recording room, singing a song with some pictures of Emily and him on the computer. Kaylie gets a bit sad when she hears him sing, since it reminds her of Maeve. Later, Max comes to Lauren's house to take some pictures for the meet. Lauren dresses up in lingerie. When Summer comes in, she sees Lauren posing for Max and makes a deal with her. Darby has bad news that Dallas canceled the meet. Instead of Dallas, the Rock would have a meet with Pinewood Gymnastics Club, the worst team in the country. Darby gets a bit sad since no one likes her at the gym, then she makes a deal with Payson. Later, Kaylie gets a call from Maeve's mother to come to her funeral to talk about Maeve to all the people. Kaylie has never been to a funeral before, so Damon decides to come with her. Kaylie does not want to come to Maeve's funeral because Maeve's life has been a lie and she cannot take it. She runs away from the church with Damon running after her. Kaylie and Damon come to the Pizza Shack, since he has to perform there. The Rock girls comes to the Shack and Emily sees Kaylie perform with Damon and gets jealous. Later, when the meet starts, everything goes wrong. Darby tells Payson to do the move she taught her. Payson decides to do what Darby says and falls on her back. The Rock loses and the whole team, specifically Payson, confront Darby about her horrible coaching. She leaves, clearly upset, and Lauren makes a statement about how a real coach would never walk away from a diss like that. 35 15 "Hungary Heart" Rod Hardy Kerry Lenhart & John J. Sakmar April 25, 2011 ( ) 1.64[27] After the Rock‘s embarrassing lost to Pinewood, the lowest ranked team in the country, Payson, Emily, and Lauren are headed to compete in Hungary with a more stern Darby as their coach. Steve warns Darby that everyone is going to be watching her and if she appears unable to handle the girls, the NGO will take action. Payson notices Sasha‘s unsigned release papers waiting to be mailed to him in Romania. Damon visits Emily before the girls leave for the meet and Emily questions Damon about his relationship with Kaylie after she witnessed the two singing together on stage. Emily is also annoyed that Damon did not tell her about Chloe working at the strip club. Emily decides it is too much and breaks up with Damon. While on the plane, Payson fed up with Darby, tells the girls she is going to get Sasha back as their coach. Payson initiates a plan in which the girls ditch Darby at the airport during their layover and they catch another flight to Romania. While in Romania, Emily drinks an energy drink and Payson reminds her that she shouldn‘t be drinking energy drinks due to how many banned substances they contain and could possibly cause her to fail a drug test. The girls find Sasha working in a bar, and he refuses to return at first but later gives in after Payson stubbornly stays behind to wait for him, returning his Olympic gold medal and telling him she only wanted it because it stood for him never giving up. He later shows up at their hotel room at 3:04 in the morning, telling them they needed to prove they wanted him back, but yes, he would return. Payson and Emily squeal in happiness after he shuts the door. Payson looks particularly relieved. Kaylie and Damon become closer as they discuss Kaylie‘s eating disorder, Emily, and music. Sasha returns to the meet in Hungary to coach the girls and Darby is not happy, but Mr. Tanner agrees with the girls, Sasha is the better coach. After the meet, the International chairman approaches Emily and Sasha with a concern regarding her test. When Emily tries to defend her test by stating that she did not know about the substances in her energy drink beforehand, the Chairman informs her that her test did not reveal banned substances, but rather that she is pregnant. Note: Chelsea Hobbs, who portrays Emily, gave birth two days after this episode aired. 36 16 "Requiem for a Dream" Michael Schultz Holly Sorensen May 2, 2011 ( ) 1.65[28]

Read More »Emily goes to the doctors and finds out that she is six weeks pregnant. The doctor says she would not be able to do gymnastics anymore as it can cause harm to the baby. Chloe talks to her about the possibility of an abortion and Sasha pressures Emily to make a decision about her future. Kaylie and Damon record a song for his album as that was the only song the record company liked. They get caught up in the moment and kiss but Kaylie regrets it and runs out of the studio. Lauren puts pressure on Steve to propose to Summer. He agrees but when he asks Summer, she says she needs time to think about it. Summer visits Sasha to see if there's still anything left between them but they get into an argument about abortion when she is told about Emily's pregnancy. Summer then accepts Steve's proposal. Marcus arrives at The Rock to tell Emily she has made it to the World Team but she now has to deal with her pregnancy. Payson approaches Emily and Emily tells her that she's pregnant. Payson gets angry at Emily and tells her that not only did she ruin her life, but also the dreams of her teammates. Emily feels she deserves some support and goes to Damon. He is upset that he got Emily pregnant but Emily tells him that they can live the happy ending they wanted that they were going to postpone after the Olympics. Kaylie goes to Emily's house to tell her about the kiss between her and Damon. Emily shuts down and runs away to Las Vegas to live with her godmother. The Rock girls try to confront Emily but realize she has already left. They then go to the site of the old gymnastics camp and camp out with their parents. Steve and Summer look extremely happy together. Kaylie tells the other girls that she is ready to start training again. Lauren expresses understanding towards Emily's situation, saying it's not a bad thing to want a child that will love you forever. Payson regrets yelling at Emily, saying that there is nothing in the world like a gymnastics team. They also find out Sasha has been named as the National Team Coach going to Worlds. He hugs all the girls and looks very happy as well. Note: This is the last episode in which Chelsea Hobbs appears, although she retains her billing in the opening credits for the rest of the season. This is also the last episode to be written by series creator Holly Sorensen. 37 17 "To Thine Own Self Be True" John Behring Liz Maccie May 9, 2011 ( ) 1.51[29] Kaylie finally returns to training at The Rock, but the public is under the impression that her time away from the gym was from an ACL injury, not rehab for anorexia. Soon after, Sasha announces that Kelly Parker is going to replace Emily on the World team, and that Kaylie will be replaced, as well, since she has not had enough time to train. Lauren gets worried that Summer does not really want to be part of her family, but Summer assures her that that's not the case. Lauren asks Summer to adopt her so that she will be her real mother, not just a step-mother, and Summer says yes. Tessa overhears that Payson, Lauren, Max, and Austin are breaking into the gym at night to help Kaylie get her skills back, and tells Kelly, who informs Sasha. Sasha surprises the gang at the gym that night and reminds them that he can kick them all off the team for disobeying him. But he agrees to watch what Kaylie has accomplished and admits that she has improved over where she was before her illness, but that he still does not feel she is emotionally prepared for high-level competition. He ends up speaking with her therapist about the whole thing, and Gene tells Sasha that he would not have told Kaylie that she is ready to be a gymnast again if he did not feel she was both physically and emotionally prepared for it. The next day, Sasha announces who will be traveling with the team to Worlds: Tessa Grande, Annie Dillon, and Kaylie Cruz. Based on their training, he will choose the last member of the team at the competition. 38 18 "Dog Eat Dog" Chris Grismer Michael Gans & Richard Register May 16, 2011 ( ) 1.64[30] While taking a jog, Max and Payson discover an abandoned puppy which they decide to hide until they find a new home for her. Sheila, Kelly Parkers manager arrives at the Rock complete with a tour bus and banner featuring Kelly Parker to hang outside of the Rock. The Rock girls are not too happy with Kelly‘s banner or her newly arrived manager. Lauren is jealous of Max and Payson‘s deep conversation. She suspects the two have something serious going on, oblivious to the fact that most of the discussion is about the puppy. Sasha announces to the Rock Girls, that there is one more spot on the World team and Kelly Parker is hoping Tessa lands it. Sheila, who we later find out is Kelly‘s mother, stresses to Kelly that she can‘t afford to share the spotlight with Kaylie, there‘s too much money at stake. Kelly begins to try and distract Kaylie. Mark is back in Boulder interviewing for a job after his company went under, and he and Kim decide to keep the information from Payson. Austin asks Sasha for permission to work with Kaylie while she trains to get her spot back. Sasha approves. Austin strategizes a way to make Kaylie strong on one event, the vault which is Sasha‘s weakest link on the team. After hearing Kaylie won the spot on the World team, Sheila tells Kelly Parker that she needs to get proof of Kaylie‘s anorexia so that Kaylie can kiss her endorsements goodbye. Sheila feels as if Kelly let her down and that she may drop Kelly as her client. Kaylie witnesses the tail end of Kelly crying after Sheila‘s outburst and Kaylie lends Kelly Parker an ear and expresses concern for her now that the two are teammates. Kelly ends up hanging out at Kaylie's house thanking her for being there for her but when Kaylie asks her to stay for dinner and Kelly accepts and Kaylie leaves to tell her mother, Kelly finds her journal and reads the page that reads; "My name is Kaylie Cruz and I am anorexic," she stashes the journal in her bag. 39 19 "What Lies Beneath" David Paymer Joanna Johnson May 23, 2011 ( ) 1.49[31] Sheila, Kelly Parker‘s mother, continues to have an overbearing presence at the Rock including blaming her daughter for allowing Kaylie to land the Healthy Bar endorsement deal. Sheila tells Kelly that she must expose Kaylie‘s anorexia now that Kaylie has made the World Team. Sasha continues to work with Lauren on beam and load her routine with high skill moves. Lauren agrees to trust Sasha. Marcus tells Kim that the video of Payson kissing Sasha was sent to the NGO anonymously. The unedited version shows that Sasha pushed Payson away. Kelly overhears Kaylie telling the press that Kelly Parker should be the team captain because she is the current world champ and has more gold medals than anyone else. Kelly is surprised by the class act Kaylie is. The Healthy Bar representatives presents Kaylie and her parents with their endorsement deal for a fit young woman who cares about good nutrition. Kaylie, having kept her anorexia a secret, struggles with being dishonest and misrepresenting such a campaign. Sheila seeks help to expose Kaylie‘s condition from Ellen Beals who has come back to exonerate herself from being investigated for the Payson/Sasha video scandal. Payson shares with Kaylie that her parents can‘t afford to come to Worlds and are in heavy debt. Kaylie comes up with the perfect idea for Payson to be the spokesperson for Healthy Bar instead of herself. Max agrees to work on a presentation to convince the Healthy Bar reps that Payson is their girl. At the Tanner party, Max runs to seclusion after Lauren throws herself on him sexually and Payson admits that she might be in love with him. When Austin finds Max, he‘s drunk and overwhelmed. Max kisses Austin and tells him he is bisexual. Ellen Beals reveals that she is being accused of the Payson/Sasha video, and tells Lauren she will never sell her out but will "return the favor." Lauren is forced to tell Summer the truth about the video when Ellen Beals tips Summer to ask Steve who sent the training cam video to the NGO. Realizing that Steve and Lauren have been keeping this horrible secret all along, Summer refuses to have anything to do with either of them ever again. A devastated Lauren leaves with Max to talk about Summer's reaction, and while talking their car is hit by a SUV. While Lauren ends up fine, Max is injured.
