The same poll found that many millennials tend to move back home because of the burden brought on by student loan debt. Is there such a thing as too old to live with your parents? According to recent poll results, we now have an unofficial answer to that question. A new study published by TD Ameritrade found that the average age at which it begins to become "embarrassing" for someone to live with with their parents is 28. This conclusion was made after survey responses were analyzed from 3,054 survey participants, all 15 and older. And three generations—generation z, millennials, and their parents—actually all came to the same conclusion about the magic number. The same report also found that once millennial children leave the nest, one in three of them will move back for two or more years. And a majority of respondents said they'd expect to pay no rent once they returned home. But a key finding of this research unveiled that for many, there's a reasonable explanation for heading back (and sometimes staying!) at their parents home: "they simply can not afford it with their student debt."

As children grow closer to their second birthdays, they take big steps in learning about the desires and feelings of other people. They also become more assertive about their own wishes. Toddlers begin to understand that other people have desires and wishes different from their own, and this can lead to conflict. Since toddlers need to learn how conflict works between people, they begin a series of early experiments by testing boundaries and discovering their physical and developmental limits. Toddlers may test a limit set by an adult (by saying “no” or doing the opposite of what is asked) to see what reaction they will receive, even if they know the reaction will be negative. Although these defiant behaviors are healthy and developmentally appropriate ways for toddlers to deal with conflict, they challenge adults to develop responses that maintain necessary limits while firmly encouraging cooperation.
