God’s demands from His people are enormous, and we don’t have any excuses not to meet these demands, if we want to enjoy smooth relationship with Him. God wants to speak to us on another issue crucial to Him and His Kingdom. “…and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul” God is very passionate about our relationship with Him here on earth and the life to come. The word “to serve” in Hebrew word “abad” is used in a theological way means “to work, to process, to perform, to labour or to serve, to worship and to honour.” To serve God requires total submission to Him and through our relationship with Him. God alone should be an object of our worship in life (Ex. 20:3). God emphasises that no human created in His image should honour, worship or serve other gods. The society pretends to serve God through different mediums today with the thinking that God accepts their worship. But God requires us to serve Him through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We ought to serve God with our entire heart and with all our soul. This is a great and highly demanding in building intimacy with Christ. Many claimed to serve God, but their heart is very far from the truth. Jesus quoting the prophet Isaiah “These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far away. Their worship is a farce, for they replace God’s commands with their own man-made teaching” (Mk. 7:7, NLT). The heart that will serve or honour God must be pure from every contamination of the world (Psalm 24:4). Pure heart is the pre-requisite to serving the Lord. What God demands from us in serving Him perfectly is our pure heart. Our heart is the centre of decision in life, and if our heart is upright with God, our worship will be acceptable to Him. Is your heart clean to God and your neighbour? The heart that serves God should abhor evil, malice, un-forgiveness and quarrelling. Until your heart is fixed on God, your service to Him is in vain. Finally, your response to God and His Word will determine your state of heart in serving God. Paul encourages the Colossians Church that “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.” (Colossians 3:23-24). Your service to God with faithful and pure heart will attract great rewards. God demands your service to Him and humanity. You are part of the programme of God, therefore, do not let Him down.
