All the purse essentials you need as a mom. Do you carry all 14 of these things? I do now and it’s a game changer!

I didn’t carry any of these purse essentials until just recently

Let me just preface this blog post by saying that I never have all these “purse essentials” in my purse. Ever. But in my nearly 10 years of being a mom, I’ve had some of all these things in my purse and I think these are the true purse essentials for every woman. But in order to write this post (and take photos), I had to stock my purse with all these things, and I use these little mesh pouches to keep it organized (and easy to transfer from one bag to another).

Let me tell you, having a fully stocked purse is glorious!

Use a mesh bag to carry your mom purse essentials

Something like this is perfect and this 10-pack is only $14!

14 purse essentials you should have in your mom bag

1. Mini first aid kit

Band-aids for scrapes or blisters in new shoes (*raises hand*) — every mom purse needs a first aid kit. HOT TIP: Toss a pair of nail clippers inside the kit. I can’t tell you how many times I need a pair of nail clippers when I’m out and about!

2. Hand sanitizer

I’ll bathe in this daily, thank you very much. Hand sanitizer right when my kids get out of school is essential! My husband also carries one with a pump in his car so he can clean his hands right when he gets out of meetings. I’m not a germaphobe at all, actually, but kids are gross and I don’t like to get sick!

3. Tissues

Basically every morning on the way to school my kids need to blow their nose – we always forget before we leave! I love having tissues ready to go so they can clean out their nose before they head into school. Also tissues are great to have on hand at church when someone is crying (*raises hand*), or really anywhere.

4. Feminine products

There’s nothing worse than being out and needing a feminine product and you don’t have one (or a quarter to use those bathroom machines)! Keep one or two tampons, a liner, an extra cup — whatever you use — stashed in your purse always.

5. Snacks

I don’t always like to carry snacks around because my kids or I will just eat them for no reason. But sometimes you actually need something to feed a starving child. So I think a bag of trail mix or a granola bar is good — something that will last a long time and isn’t so enticing that we’re all tempted to gobble them up at any time.

6. Water

It’s the running joke in our family that our children turn into camels the second we get in the car, and no one has a water bottle! I don’t keep bottles of water in the car, since it gets so hot and humid in Texas, but I always try to bring my reusable water bottle with me when we go out.

7. Chapstick

An absolute purse essential for me! I personally like Vaseline the best, but any chapstick will do.

8. Wipes

Obviously an essential if your kids are babies, but even if you’re out of diapers (like us), wipes are great for sticky hands, messy faces, or cuts and scrapes.

9. Gum/mints

I don’t like to go anywhere without a pack of mints or a few sticks of gum. Always good to have them on hand! The mini tins of Altoids are my favorite.

10. Hair tie

These aren’t necessary for my boys, but I can always use an extra hair tie. It’s like I hit the jackpot every time I find one in my purse. THESE are my favorite, favorite, favorite hair ties ever.

11. Pen

Someone always needs a pen!

Also someone told me once how germ-y public pens are (at banks, or the dry cleaner, or wherever you’re signing a receipt) and now I feel so gross about them. I’ll use my own pen, thanks.

These are my favorite pens right now.

12. Roll on perfume

One of my friends gave me a perfume roller a few years ago and I still carry it almost everywhere! I love being able to freshen up quickly with just a little roll of perfume on my neck or my wrists. Seriously, try it!

13. Portable phone charger

I can’t go anywhere without my portable charger! Phone batteries are always dying at inopportune moments — either yours or a friends. THIS IS MY FAVORITE PORTABLE CHARGER and it holds up to 7 charges. It’s a game changer! (It also comes in a smaller size that holds 3-4 charges)

14. Pressed powder or blotting tissues

In the Texas heat, blotting tissues or some pressed powder are a great way to touch up your “shimmery” face on a hot day. Toss a few of these in your purse and you’ll thank me later.

Ok, tell me your mom purse essentials! Did I miss anything??
