Bed bugs are notorious for how tough they are. They are difficult to exterminate, and over the years, they have developed resilience for many chemicals and treatments. As a result, these days, bed bugs are an issue which torments thousands of households. Despite that, it’s not impossible to get rid of these critters. There are still ways to ensure their eradication from your house. Of course, some will be more effective than others. As people usually want to get the best results as fast as possible, we will focus on some treatments that carry the fame of being “instant bed bug killers”. Do note that even in this case, it still requires time to apply the treatment and then verify the results.

The most popular home treatment

Among the popular and most effective DIY home treatments for bed bugs is rubbing alcohol. You can dilute it and place it a spray bottle and simply spray the infested areas. The alcohol will kill bed bugs almost immediately. It also evaporates quickly, leaves no traces or bad smells. Despite that, it does not guarantee 100% success. For example, it can kill only adult bed bugs, but not their eggs or nymphs. And it also works only on direct contact with the bug. Which means that the hidden ones will remain alive.

The second most popular home treatment

A close second is a vinegar. It has the same effect as rubbing alcohol but with an added benefit. You can use white distilled vinegar on the edges of infested areas. You can also spray it on the critters directly. The limitations are the same: it needs direct contact with the bugs and only works on adult critters. Plus, it may not react well with some fabrics.

The third home solution for bed bug treatment

It’s… essential oils. Especially if you mix them along with rubbing alcohol. Make such a mixture in a spray bottle and fire away. The limitations, though, are the same as above.

Use of chemicals

There are plenty of chemical treatments for bed bugs on the market. Some of them are even sold as suitable for use by homeowners directly (For example, Diatomaceous Earth). It has the added benefit of being a powder that can stay for a few days and will damage bed bugs over time as they come into contact with it. It’s also safe for humans and indoor use. But it lacks the “instant” part of the equation. There are other liquid chemicals on the market, but you have to note other factors for them. For example, are they allowed in your area. What are the requirements for use (some may need you to stay out of the treated room for 24 hours). There’s also no way of knowing if the bugs aren’t already resilient to your particular choice. If they aren’t, you will also have to deal with the same old problem – getting direct contact with all bugs. Some aerosols can help with that as their fine mist will find it easier to get into most nooks and small gaps.

Professional treatment

There’s one sure way for instant eradication: Relying on professionals to do the bed bug treatment with suitable equipment and experience. They can use top-level chemicals if needed and can also opt or mix it with heat treatment. This way you will be sure that the bed bugs in your house are no more.
