72 Hour Kits

The goal of a 72 hour kit is to get you through the next 3 days after an emergency. The kit should be complete and ready and waiting within a home or vehicle. When an emergency strikes and evacuation is required, you can grab the kit on the way out the door. It usually contains clothing, toiletries, cash, food, water, communication devices, power sources, light sources, etc. 72 hour kits generally aren't as robust as a bug out bag. While they're intended for uncertainty, they're designed for 72 hours away from home with the intent of returning home. A bug out bag is intended to support you away from home long term. To get started on your kit ask: "what would I need for 3 days if I had to grab one thing and leave my house?" This emergency kit is Stage 2 of the recommended survival kit system. Be sure to build the Emergency Essentials Kit from Stage 1 to include in your 72 hour kit. Both kits contain required essentials for long term evacuation.

Circumstances requiring a 72 hour kit:

tornado evacuation

flood evacuation

earthquake evacuation

etc.

While we recommend building your own 72 hour kit, there are ready-made kits available. You can purchase them and add items to customize for your individual needs.
