Read More »When he graduated from Lakeside School in 1973, he was a National Merit Scholar. He received a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score of 1590 out of 1600 and enrolled at Harvard College in the fall of 1973. He majored in pre-law but also took math and graduate-level computer science courses. Gates stayed at the family home in Seattle until 1973, when he graduated from Lakeside and enrolled at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Bill lived in Currier House, one of Harvard's 12 undergraduate residences. Here, Gates met Steve Ballmer, who went on to become Microsoft's CEO after Gates stepped down in 2000. Bill Gates' mathematical brilliance as a Harvard student in the 1970s impressed more than one faculty member. Steve and Bill met while living on the same corridor in Currier House and quickly became close friends. When the Altair 8800 was released in 1975, Bill and Paul Allen saw an opportunity to launch their own software company, Microsoft. This Harvard dropout pursued his passion for technology from a young age, working as a computer programmer for TRW during his senior year of high school.
