What is one thing you can't control?

For starters, you cannot control people. You cannot control their actions, reactions, thoughts, feelings, beliefs, etc. You are also not RESPONSIBLE for other people's actions, reactions, thoughts, feelings, beliefs, etc (excluding your non-adult children). We don't usually try to control people on purpose.

2. Make Your Plans Flexible

Sometimes you have to make plans. Especially when budgets, timeframes, and other people are involved. As a general rule, only plan out what needs to be planned. You can make lists of ideas for the smaller details of your plan, but don’t write them in stone. You can’t predict exactly how things will turn out. So you’ll save yourself a lot of time and energy by not planning them in advance and re-planning them later. You’ll also save yourself from disappointment when things don’t go as you’d planned (because they won’t). Flexible plans keep you open to all opportunities and they also keep you from trying to control things that you can’t control.

3. Don’t Get Attached to an Outcome

Going along with making your plans flexible, you’ll want to practice not getting attached to specific outcomes. “In death and in life, should we ‘hope for the best’ or ‘expect the worst?’ What if instead we cultivated a non-judgemental attention and commitment to being in the truth of whatever is present?” (The Five Invitations). Remember that there are so many factors that go into an outcome and that we cannot control them all. There is no way to predict a certain outcome. Be open to outcomes, but do not get attached to them because they are not promised.

4. Embrace (or at least Accept) Change

The reality of life is that things are always changing. To let go of control, you must embrace, or at least accept, that things will always change. For me, I do this by acknowledging that change is the best opportunity to find growth as well as new and exciting things.

Embrace change by first acknowledging it. Then, take some time to reflect on how change is beneficial. How can you be grateful for change?

5. Work Toward Personal Growth

Instead of trying to change your circumstances, work toward personal growth.

“We grow when we realize we are no longer able to control all of the conditions of our lives and are therefore challenged to change ourselves.” (The Five Invitations). Instead of trying to change the unchangeable, you can learn to let go of worries, slow down, prioritize, and focus your attention on the things that matter most to you. Take some time to address the things that are holding you back from letting go of control, and then focus your growth in that direction.

6. Be Present

Above all, be present. We cannot control what has happened in the past, so there is no sense in dwelling on it. And we cannot control what happens in the future.

We can only ever live in the present moment.

When you are present, you won’t be living with your mind in the future. It will be easier to let go of control because you’ll only be focused on what’s happening right now. And you’ll be able to take life one step at a time. It’s a really beautiful thing when you take the time to reflect on being present. When I look at all the times that I was truly present, even during sad or hard times, everything was okay in those moments. When I remind myself that when I stay present life feels as it should be, I can let go of control knowing that those future moments will be okay too, even if they aren’t perfectly planned.

Which body part is not present at birth?

Human embryos develop a tail between five and eight weeks after conception. The tail vanishes by the time humans are born, and the remaining vertebrae merge to form the coccyx, or tailbone.

Some human body parts have become useless over the past few million years. Useless body parts include the appendix, the tail bone, and the muscle fibers that produce goose bumps. The appendix, for example, is not an essential body part (though some research suggests it may act as storage for good bacteria). In some cases, the appendix gets inflamed or ruptures, which requires surgical removal of the organ. Several other body parts used to be important for humans' survival, but they have since become useless. Some of them can be removed, and the absence of them does not lower people's quality of life. Business Insider spoke with Dorsa Amir, an evolutionary anthropologist at Boston College, to learn more about what she calls "evolutionary leftovers." Amir said that if a trait becomes no longer useful but remains harmless to humans, then it tags along for the evolutionary ride. Take a look at nine body parts that remained in the human body despite having no function for millions of years.
