For women, the need to be on constant alert is palpable and real. With that in mind, learning effective self-defense techniques is critical and can save your life. There are several disciplines to consider when it comes to self-defense, and they are all beneficial. These disciplines promote self-esteem, confidence, camaraderie among women, and, of course, fitness. Krav Maga is the most effective option you’ll find. A compilation of several self-defense practices, it was originally developed by streetfighter and boxer Imi Lichtenfeld as a form of protection against Anti-Semitic groups in Slovakia during the 1930s. The rise of the Nazis and Lichtenfeld’s subsequent escape from Europe eventually led him to Israel where he joined the Israeli paramilitary and began teaching Israeli soldiers this hand-to-hand combat technique. By the 1950s, Lichtenfeld had been named the chief instructor of Krav Maga in the Israel Defense Forces and continued to refine the practice. Ultimately, the Krav Maga Association was formed to promote practical self-defense techniques that could be easily applied by everyday people on a global scale.
