As part of yoga theory, I was exposed to a concept which explains that human body is made of 5 sheaths (panchakosha). And like you peel the onion, you can peel one sheath at a time and in the end you will find the true body atma (the bliss body, your true self). The concept of panchkosha is presented through a beautiful story of a teacher and a student in Taittiriya Upanishad, where the teacher asks many questions to the student and gives him tasks so that he can discover the true meaning of human life. This is one concept has stuck with me and continues to inspire in many ways and I would love to share some of my leanings here: The story taught me that a teacher or a mentor has the power to show the right path. What we eat is what we become. When we eat positive pranic food, it not only nurtures our body but also our mind and soul. The way we breathe is the way we think and that's why breath is the bridge between body and mind. Life force in very simple terms refers to breath and when we learn to control it and use it optimally for our benefit, it becomes the vital life force. The diagram represents how the prana body sits between food body and mind body. When we gain control over our body, breath and mind, we get access to the power of intuition (Wisdom body). Many a times I struggle with a problem throughout the day and nothing moves in my head, but when I am ending my day with my yin yoga practice I suddenly get the answers- have you experienced it also? The ultimate goal of human life is to strive for perfection. Bliss body is nothing but a state of perfection i.e. when one realizes that I am one with the universe. This is also when one realize that I am made of same matter as the person in front of me and while superficially we might look like two different people, we are ultimately here to achieve the same goal- and hence the conflict ends.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this concept. What do you experience when you look at these 5 circles?
