In the manga, the identities of Eight Pillars have already been revealed. The Pillars are a vital part of the plan of the antagonist of the series: The Evangelist. I already mentioned that Enen no Shouboutai is one of the anime that have great action scenes and now that the eight Pillars have appeared, I wanted to check out who’s the strongest among them.

Enen no Shouboutai: The Eight Pillars

8. Iris – Eight Pillar

Iris is a nun from The Holy Sol Temple and an official member of the Special Fire Force Company 8. She used to live in one of the convents annexed to the Holy Sol Temple, where she was one of the experimental subjects of Sister Sumire to produce more Adolla Burst holders. Due to an incident, the convent caught fire and Sumire, Hibana and Iris were the only survivors. Iris was revealed to be the Doppelganger of the first Pillar Amaterasu and Eight and last Pillar, who represents “Despair”. However, Iris was not a pyrokinetic user, but she became one after awakening her Adolla Burst. She can provide aura protection to others that reduces the damage taken by the flames and can also generate fire from her fingers. But due to her inexperience as a pyrokinetic, her powers are still weak.

7. Inca Kasugatani – Fifth Pillar

Inca is one of the survivors from the event known as the Great Fire in where she awoke her ability to sense the flames. In later years, Inca was known across Tokyo for being a fire thief, she would save people from fires in exchange for their goods. However, after waking up as the Fifth Pillar, she became part of the White-Clad. She represents the Pillar of “Destruction”. Inca’s pyrokinetic ability allows her to detect heat paths, letting her know where the fires will start and spread, how big they will be and how the ignition abilities from others will act. At first, Inca was part of the fourth generation, but when she woke up her Adolla Burst, gained the ability to triggers explosions following a pathway with her fingers. However, Inca doesn’t know when those pathways will appear, making her a weak target if they do not appear.

6. Sumire Sugita – Seventh Pillar

200 years ago, Sumire was a businesswoman who grew disillusioned with humans and for that reason, she became a servant of the Evangelist. She was the one who initiated the fire in the convent where Hibana and Iris lived. After that, she was in hiding for many years.

Her ability allows her to turn the movements and reflexes of humans into kinetic energy, which is used to create large scale vibrations. Sometimes she can even produce earthquakes by linking her ability with the Adolla Burst.

5. Nataku Son – Sixth Pillar

After being stung, he became a third-generation pyrokinetic and Haijima Industries took him into custody. They made Nataku an experimental subject and conducted many experiments on him, which led him to awake his Adolla Burst and become the Sixth Pillar of “Fear”. The ability of Nataku allows him to ignite a flaming claw in his right arm and create and shoot flame rings that have the radioactive symbol on them. Nataku becomes highly dangerous when he manifests his Adolla Burst because he emits radioactive energy, which is deadly for anyone who does not have resistance to the flames. It is believed that the full power of Nataku could destroy the entire Tokyo Empire.

4. Kusakabe Shō – Third Pillar

He spent most of his life supporting the Evangelist and thus became the Commander of the Knights of the Ashen Flame. He never knew that he had a mother and an older brother until he met Shinra. Shō is the Third Pillar who represents “Apathy”. He is a skilled swordsman who can use an ability through a Grace known as “Severed Universe” via his Adolla Link, which allows him to slow the flow of time for everything, except for him (and Shinra, who is fast enough to match him heh). However, if Shō uses this ability for a long time, his body temperature will start to drop to the point of freezing him. He can also manifest burning feathers and control them.

3. Haumea – Second Pillar

Haumea is part of the White-Clad and has been almost all her life supporting the Evangelist. She is the Second Pillar who represents “Passivity”. She is an Electric Shock user; Haumea’s ability allows her to control other people by using electrical signals to manipulate their nerves. She can also manipulate the endorphins and neurotransmitters of people to influence their behaviours. Haumea possesses another ability known as Talking Head, which allows her to read other people thoughts and feelings. Unfortunately, she was never able to deactivate this ability.

She grew up listening to the selfish and dark thoughts of humanity and because of this, she had a mental breakdown causing her to become sadistic and violent.

2. Kusakabe Shinra – Fourth Pillar

Since Shinra was a kid, he had always wanted to be a hero, one that could protect his family. However, one night, Shinra woke up and discovered that his house was on fire. At that time, Shō activated his Adolla Burst and this triggered Shinra to awaken his pyrokinetic powers. As time passed, Shinra grew up and ended up joining the Special Fire Force Company 8, hoping that he could uncover the truth behind his past incident. Shinra is the Fourth Pillar of “Rage”. The ignition ability of Shinra allows him to ignite and control the flames from his feet. This combined with his extraordinary fighting skills, makes him one of the strongest characters in Enen no Shouboutai. Like Shō, Shinra can also obtain Grace through his Adolla Link. With Grace, he can split his body into subatomic particles, making him move faster than the speed of light.

1. Amaterasu – First Pillar

There is not a lot of information about one of the First Pillars in Enen no Shouboutai. We have not seen her fighting someone nor using an ignition ability, but she has enough power to serve as the power source for the Tokyo Empire. She can also use the Adolla Link as she pleases, allowing her to appear in front of other Adolla Bursts. Amaterasu’s attitude is fitting as the Pillar who represents the “Rage”. She has a deranged nature and very manipulative behaviour. She also holds an immense hatred towards humanity, which is most likely the result of being forcibly used as a source of power for centuries.
