Read More »Sony has been killing it in the home console market as the PlayStation 4 has now surpassed 100 million units in sales this year. The PlayStation 2 is by far the best selling console in the company's history as it sold over 150 million units in its heyday. However, the company also experimented with handheld consoles with the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the PS Vita. While the PSP did incredible numbers in sales; the PS Vita was a disaster as it did not have any beloved games or first-party support to make it a robust console. Due to the PS Vita's dismal performance, the company is no longer interested in handheld devices. The Nintendo Switch has already proven that a handheld console can still be a huge success provided it gets good support from first-party and third-party studios. However, the PS Vita did not get the same support from developers as it did not have any good first-party or even third-party titles.
