Read More »For the 39th season of “Survivor,” former winners Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine have returned to serve as expert mentors for the new castaways. But even though they’re not eligible to win the $1 million prize, Boston Rob (winner of “Redemption Island”) and Queen Sandra (winner of “Pearl Islands” and “Heroes vs. Villains”) are still having to survive the elements on the Island of the Idols. For Sandra, that comes with a physical toll in the form of “huge blisters” on her hands. In CBS’s “Survivor” deleted scene above, she tries to fist-bump Rob, but he refuses out of fear of getting infected himself. “It doesn’t matter how many days we’ve played this game, the elements still affect us,” Rob says after a particularly “rough night” in Fiji that included a torrential downpour. Sandra agrees, stating, “And that’s the part you forget when you go home and then you kind of miss the game and want to play again. You forget how miserable it can be out here.” According to the show’s doctor, Sandra came into contact with something she’s allergic to, resulting in her hands getting swollen and covered in blisters. That’s why she’s seen wearing bandages on her hands during the show. “I’m gonna make it but last night it was rough because it was hot, it was burning, it was itchy,” Sandra declared. “You have to make it,” Rob urged. “I’m not riding solo out here!” He then proclaimed, “It just goes to show, it doesn’t matter how many days we’ve played, how many seasons, we’re still at the mercy of the elements out here.” Sandra reminds Rob she’s never had an injury during any of her prior seasons. “This right here is killing me,” she sighs. “I’m 44 and Fiji’s taking a toll on me.” She previously appeared on “Pearl Islands,” “Heroes vs. Villains” and “Game Changers.” “We’re not 25 anymore, that’s for sure,” Rob agrees. He previously appeared on “Marquesas,” “All Stars,” “Heroes vs. Villains” and “Redemption Island.” When Sandra tries to fist-bump him, Rob hesitates and exclaims, “I don’t know if it’s contagious or not!”
