Parents need to know Battlefield 4 is a "Mature"-rated military simulation filled with extreme, realistic violence. Played from a first-person perspective, the single-player campaign and multiplayer modes are designed to make you feel you're right there in the middle of the action.

Read More »I started playing battlefield games after I left the marine corps in 2013 at the age of 29. I started playing the "bad company" games with the chaplain associated with my battalion while I was working in construction. I have played every battlefield game since then, and I've met some of my best friends because of it. I can honestly that this website does the positive qualities of this game no service at all. Calling it "a simulation" and "realistic" really makes me think that this website was created solely for the purpose of dragging mature rated video games through the mud. I have experienced real, intense combat, and calling this game a simulation is a total joke. I didn't start playing these video games because it puts me back into a war zone, I started because I wanted a fun way to get to know people better. In terms of the campaign (the story), it one of the less extreme in the battlefield series, and it was a step down in violence from battlefield 3. All of the cursing happens in in the campaign, and the multiplayer (the part of the game that you will play more of) is too fast and unpredictable to notice any gore, and there is no language in the multiplayer. My sons are both ten years old, and I wouldn't let them play any of my battlefield games yet, because as a parent I don't have faith in their ability to separate this game from their lives and from school. If your kid doesn't have issues with language or violent actions despite having some exposure to those themes, then 15 is the perfect age for them to start playing. I don't think this game was intended for children, but if you trust them with some of the milder R rated films, this game is in that same ballpark. there are so many things to be learned from battlefield four's multiplayer, and so many different ways to play it. you can tune the way you play it to such an extent that no one is alienated due to difficulty. There are so many rewarding objectives and assignments that your kid will never get bored of it, and your money cant be wasted. However, it isn't addictive like battle royale games are, so its less likely to make your kid spend too much time playing.
