The cause of this particular shortage is a combination of rising demand and already depleted stocks further impacted by the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Read More »Most people took notice of the chip shortage when Covid-19 swept across the globe. Many organizations shut down in an attempt to stem the disease’s spread, including electronics component factories that produced semiconductors key to modern game consoles. Understandably, that decision ground manufacturing to a halt. After all, you can’t exactly produce semiconductors if nobody is there to work. Even after factory floors opened, everyone had to obey new rules that made it difficult (often impossible) for companies to match their peak pre-pandemic levels. However, it’s not really fair to put all the blame on the pandemic in this particular instance. When it comes to this recent chip shortage, Covid-19 was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. Outlets such as the New York Times and Bloomberg did some digging and discovered that the demand for semiconductors has been ballooning for quite a while. More importantly, it turns out that the gaming industry is just one of the contributors to that problem. Every year, more and more car and car components have relied on semiconductors, and many other industries have also come to rely on more and more chips for various purposes. Manufacturers tried to undergo a kind of “crunch” period to help supply keep up with demand, but that effort didn’t work out as well as some had hoped. In fact, outlets such as the New York Times suggest that any actual solution to this problem is further away than many consumers will want to hear.

As some already state this is the Nintendo layout of buttons. Hard to find since most are the wrong Xbox layout. When you get a working one they are the best control. I love how the buttons don’t drag and it is the perfect shape. Two auto fire modes for each button and something like 3-4 vibration levels that I usually turn off since annoying and wastes battery. They have some quality control problems though and it seems mostly software/firmware on the device. I had one device that the buttons dragged and squeaked along with a click in the analog sticks like not aligned right, but the biggest issue seems to be the code powering it. Usually within a couple days the buttons will suddenly lag and “playback” a couple seconds later. Or within a month or two (usually within days of a return window) they just go nuts with buttons acting like held down or not responding at all. I really want to like these controls (Both Black and the Clear one), but they have to fix the code powering them first.
