Is Godzilla Immortal? Did King Ghidorah Kill Off the Rest of Godzilla’s Species?

We know from the prequel comic to 2014’s Godzilla (Godzilla: Awakening) that the iconic “Titan” has been around for millions of years. Cave painting proove that the Big G and others have popped up periodically through history, inspiring lore, legends, and even religions. This poses the question: Is Godzilla immortal and, when he meets Ghidorah in the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, will it actually be a rematch?

One of our favorite UK film critics and academics, Mr. H, explores these questions in his latest video, embedded at the top of the article. In a nutshell, it postulates that Godzilla is biologically immortal; if he’s close to a radiation source, his cells can regenerate indefinitely. He can, however, be killed. Most interesting, Mr. H hypothesizes that either Godzilla and Ghidorah have crossed paths before, or Ghidorah may have killed off the rest of Godzilla’s species. Give it a spin at the top of the article, followed by the trailer and synopsis for Godzilla: King of the Monsters below.
