The financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are still being felt by millions of families across the United States of America and that is why so many federal programs are still running with the pandemic at the forefront of their existence. One of these essential programs is the P-EBT state plan.

What is the P-EBT state plan?

The P-EBT state plan was approved by the US Department of Agriculture back in August 2022. It is a federal program which provides eligible households with food benefits to replace the in-person school meals that children missed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Being able to have the school feed a child is a vital part of millions of American parents' lives so, when their children were suddenly at home much more than expected, it led to households having to pay way more in food costs than they had budgeted for.

How much money do families get through the P-EBT state plan?

The P-EBT benefit levels are based on the number of days that a child missed school meals because they attended online or were absent presumed due to COVID-19. Therefore, the number of students that qualify for P-EBT in SY 2021-22 and corresponding benefit levels may be significantly lower than in prior P-EBT issuances. The amount of money that each student will receive is based on the daily rate of 7.10 dollars multiplied by the number of days not in school for five or more days in a month.

When will the P-EBT card be reloaded for 2022-2023?

The good news for families dependent on the help is that the distribution of P-EBT cards to school age children is going to carry on in November and through December of 2022. Cards will be automatically reloaded with a second lot of benefits in late November and December 2022.
